Good article Aaron. I’m shopping for a weed burner however, no one ever addresses whether or not these gadgets will destroy weed-block fabric under decorative rock. My guess is it would if you left the frame too long on a particular spot but not if for only a couple of seconds. I would appreciated your opinion. Thank you and kindest regards, Barry

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your question.

Now, onto your concern. I totally understand where you’re coming from. It’s crucial to know whether these handy gadgets can potentially damage the fabric beneath the decorative rock. While I can’t speak for all situations, I can offer some insights based on my experience.

In general, if you use the weed burner responsibly, it’s unlikely to cause significant harm to the weed-block fabric. The key is to avoid leaving the frame in one spot for too long. Just like you guessed, a couple of seconds should be fine, but it’s best to keep it moving. By quickly passing the flame over the area you want to treat, you minimize the risk of any damage to the fabric.

It’s always a good idea to err on the side of caution, though. I recommend doing a small test on a hidden part of the fabric before using the weed burner on a larger section. This way, you can observe how the fabric reacts to the heat and check for any signs of melting, discoloration, or damage. If everything looks good, you can proceed with peace of mind.

However, if you’re still concerned about potential damage, there are alternative methods you can explore. Manual weed removal is always an option, or you could consider using weed control fabrics specifically designed to withstand heat exposure. Additionally, non-heat-based weed control techniques might be worth exploring in areas with decorative rock.

Remember, every situation is unique, and it’s essential to keep a close eye on the fabric as you use the weed burner. If you notice any adverse effects, stop immediately in that area.

I hope these tips help you make an informed decision! If you have any more questions or need further guidance, don’t hesitate to reach out.
